Here at Joulberry we kicked off the month by celebrating our seventh birthday with an exclusive party for our loyal customers. Guests were invited to our boutique on Bridge Road where they enjoyed a glass of bubbly from neighbouring store Vineking and delicious canapés from local Lebanese restaurant Mezzet. They were also treated to a promotion on all our jewellery collections with a proportion of all purchases going to our chosen charity, Cheer Elmbridge who support elderly residents in East Elmbridge through a befriending scheme, social events and giving practical help.
Among the new pieces laid out for guests to peruse were our beautiful Duchess Earrings, which feature lustrous freshwater pearls set against rich yellow gold and sparkling diamonds. Another new design is the Sienna Necklace, which comes in sterling silver, rose and yellow gold and combines a delightfully tactile quality with contemporary elegance. Our popular Floating Pearl Necklace is now available in warm and universally flattering rose gold set with a black, grey, blush or white freshwater pearl.
Birthdays are a time not only for celebration but also for growth and reflection so let’s take a quick stroll down memory lane back to where it all started. When founders Therese Kober-Kelly and Sandra Dunn met eleven years ago, Therese was already making jewellery for herself. “I couldn’t find anything in the shops that I loved so I started designing my own pieces,” she explains. The pair forged an immediate connection and four years later Joulberry was born, with Therese at the creative helm and former solicitor Sandra heading up the business side.
The last seven years have seen Joulberry go from strength to strength, expanding their collections in gold and moving towards more designs incorporating diamonds and pearls, while firmly staying true to our ethos of creating timelessly elegant and distinctive British-made jewellery. Today, our collections encompass signature designs such as the iconic Sphere Necklace in sterling silver, 9ct yellow, white or rose gold, beautiful classic pearl jewellery, delicately sparkling diamond pieces and a men’s range of silver and leather bracelets. We pride ourselves on the attention to detail and the wearability of our pieces, be it the oval design of our Elipse Bangle that mimics the contour of the wrist with its smooth rounded edges or the In2You Necklace with its pleasing symmetry, bonded with a smooth bail sitting smoothly against the skin.
The most significant milestone has without a doubt been the opening of our boutique and studio on Bridge Road three years ago. Transforming the dilapidated building was a real labour of love, with Therese and Sandra designing the concept with the help of their friend and feature film set designer Abi Groves (Watson). The Boutique with its elegant interior in sophisticated hues of chocolate brown, grey and white, is the perfect backdrop to showcase our handcrafted jewellery collections. Display cabinets decorated with mother-of-pearl mosaic are fitted with original printer trays that hold the jewels while antique furniture, mirrors and crystal wall sconces add a luxurious feel. It is a warm and welcoming space where customers are greeted by the scent of flickering Daylesford candles and invited to browse and try on jewellery to their hearts content. Our shop windows are designed to capture the imaginations of both our regular boutique customers and local browsers. They are changed seasonally to reflect the current collections and mark occasions such as Christmas and the annual Hampton Court Flower Show.
Another growing area is bespoke commissions where we work closely with clients to design and create a totally unique piece of jewellery. Some customers want us to bring an heirloom gemstone back to life by incorporating it into a more modern setting whereas others have just a hint of an idea in mind. Therese says: “Whether they are looking to celebrate a special occasion, treat themselves or a loved one, it is a very collaborative process and it is so rewarding to translate their vision into a piece of jewellery that they will treasure for a lifetime.”
