How to take care of your jewellery
Joulberry only works with the finest metals including 925 Sterling Silver, 9 Carat and 18 Carat Gold and 950 Platinum.
If cared for properly your jewellery will retain its beauty for you to wear for many years to come.
Remember to polish your jewellery frequently using a soft polishing cloth to maintain its sparkle. Polishing cloths will not remove scratches from your jewellery, so please follow the steps below to best protect it.
5 steps of general maintenance:
1. Store Separately
Always store your jewellery pieces individually, preferably in your Joulberry soft-lined box or in a tarnish-resistant pouch and keep away from abrasive materials.
Keep your chains fastened so they don’t become tangled.
2. Handle with care
Take care not to drop Pearl or precious stone set jewellery or knock the jewellery against hard surfaces, wich can affect the settings.
3. Sun exposure
Freshwater Pearls and Leather jewellery should be shaded from direct sunlight for long periods of time to prevent fading.
4. High and Dry
Remove all jewellery before bathing, swimming and any other sporting / physical activity. Try to limit contact with makeup, creams, perfumes or lotions.
Avoid jewellery dips, polishing liquids, ultrasonic cleaning and strong chemicals.
Specific Maintenance tips:
Gold Jewellery: To preserve the shine of 9 and 18 carat gold jewellery, we recommend using a non-abrasive jewellery polishing cloth - (available to buy in-store or via our website https://www.joulberry.com/polishing-cloth.html).
White-gold jewellery is traditionally rhodium plated, which can wear over time but can be re-plated again.
Sterling Silver Jewellery: Sterling silver jewellery naturally tarnishes a little over time. To restore its original brilliance, we recommend cleaning with a non-abrasive polishing cloth (available to buy in-store or via our website https://www.joulberry.com/polishing-cloth.html).
Precious and Semi-precious Stones: Stones may naturally loosen over time due to general wear and tear, so we recommend periodic examinations to assess the security of settings. To protect your fine jewellery pieces, avoid wearing them in extreme temperatures and during extreme activities. If you believe your stone piece may be loose, we recommend not wearing it until you can have it examined by a professional. To clean stones, we recommend using a soft brush with warm water and a mild detergent to gently loosen any dirt or grease. For pearls and opals, avoid getting them wet and use a damp soft cloth to clean.
We do not recommend home electronic machines to clean your jewellery.
Leather jewellery: Leather will naturally age however we recommend that you avoid getting your leather wet. Water saturation can cause the adhesive between the leather and clasp to become ineffective. To keep the leather looking as it is when you buy it, avoid direct contact with water, remove when exercising or playing sport and applying skincare as body moisture and oils may accelerate the ageing of the leather. Avoid too much exposure to direct sunlight or heat as this may cause the leather to dry and colour to fade. We advise against the use of cleaning products containing alcohol or solvents.
Repairs and Cleaning: While some items can be repaired in store, certain repairs will need to be sent to one of our authorised repairers. Most cleaning can be carried out in-store (we also sell jewellery cleaning cloths for home use), however, if your jewellery needs a specialist clean then we can arrange this for you.
